Moving On

For those of you who don't know, we are moving to Charlottesville, VA. In fact, we are beginning our journey there tomorrow. My husband gets to join the staff of a young church plant in the area. We are excited about the journey ahead of us, but also sad to have to say goodbye to our friends and family in TX.

And, yes, I cried. I cried when I had to say "goodbye" to all of my dear friends in Katy, and I cried when I had to say "goodbye" to my home for the last time - the home I had brought my babies home to and spent so many hours feeding and rocking to sleep. This was the home my babies took their first steps in and said their first words. Within this home, we had countless parties and get-togethers with friends and family. As I cleaned that wonderful home on moving day, after all the furniture had been moved out, all I could think about was the wonderful memories we had there. And, then, I couldn't help but be overwhelmingly thankful to my God for blessing me with such wonderful memories. I serve a magnificent God who would allow me of all people to have the privilege of having such wonderful memories.

And as Adam and I did our final walk-through of our home before signing it over to someone else, I walked around that empty home and realized that it was no longer a home but a house, a building. It was the place that God chose to bless my family with as a home for the past 5 1/2 years. But now, it didn't hold my family's future. God holds my family's future and He holds all of those precious memories that we will make. Yes, it will be in a new home, but they will still be just as sweet and just as memorable. God reminded me in that moment, as well, that my home will really never be on this earth, but it is in heaven with my Savior who died on the cross so that I can have an eternity of beautiful memories. And I will never have to say "goodbye" again!!!

Bottle of Tears

I love bottles. I have all different kinds around my home. I have a beautiful, glass red one on my mantle; I have perfume bottles displayed on my dresser; I have shampoo bottles in my shower, which I love because they make my hair clean. I also appreciate the baby bottles in my cupboard, reminding me of all those sweet moments of rocking and feeding my little girls when they were younger.

But my favorite bottle is the bottle of tears I just read about in Psalms 56:8. It says, "You have kept count of my wanderings; put my tears in your bottle." 2 Kings 20:5 is written when King Hezekiah is sick and dying. It says, "Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you." What is so amazing to me is that God not only sees our tears, but He holds onto them in His bottle, keeping count of all of them.

Now there is a lot of tragedy in this world. So much pain and suffering that I cannot even fathom, not to mention the amount of tears. A lot of people ask, "Why does a good God allow pain and suffering?" This world is a very evil place, ruled by the most evil of all, Satan. Because our world is evil, we all will have our own share of pain and tears, unfortunately. But I take much comfort that in the midst of all this evil, our wonderful Father holds onto all of our tears remembering each one of them, and counting them all as significant. He doesn't just see you when you cry; He remembers the reason for each tear, showing us how much He loves us. That is what a good God does!

If pain and suffering do anything good, they remind us of what is really important - the decision we make about our life after death. Praise Him that for those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ we have a hope. "I [Jesus] have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33) Jesus has overcome all the evil and pain this world will ever bring. And even one day, God will get to throw out all the tears He has gathered in His bottle. Revelation 21:4 says, "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Praise Him for His victory on the cross and that He offers new life to all who seek Him. That is the kind of good God I serve!

The Necessity of the Word

Now, I am not a brilliant mind. I don't have my masters or doctorate in anything. I haven't even been to seminary. But I am a woman who reads God's Word and studies it. I want to know my creator and I want to know how I can follow Him more faithfully.

I have been doing a Bible study this year that has required me to read through the whole Bible and study the main points and characters of each book. So far, I have gotten through Song of Solomon. I have loved it!!!! I have been able to see such a clearer view of Scripture as a whole and I am so excited to get back into the study in the fall. Of all the things I have learned this year from reading the Word, is that man has the choice to follow God or not. And historically, man has succeeded at this and also failed miserably. Every time man has failed, it is because they have neglected the Word of God.

That is why my heart aches and my stomach churns when I start to hear more and more of our generation turning away from the Word. I hate to hear pastors who only teach the nice parts of Scripture, and I hate even more when pastors start to say that some Scripture is untrue or irrelevant. If we have learned anything from history, it is that the only way we will succeed (the way God views success) in this life is by following all of the Word. The moment we start to pick and choose what is true and untrue, we start on a slippery slope to destruction. It happened to Israel every time they neglected to follow the law and it will happen to us as well. If we choose to follow God's Word, meditate on it, memorize it, study it, we will be "like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers." (Psalm 1:3)

The Prayer to Keep Going

"Then the king said to me, "What are you requesting?" So I prayed to the God of heaven. (Neh. 2:4)
Hear, O our God, for we are despised. (Neh. 4:4)
And we prayed to our God and set a guard as a protection against them day and night. (Neh. 4:9)
Remember for my good, O my God, all that I have done for this people. (Neh. 5:19)
But now, O God, strengthen my hands. (Neh. 6:9)

Praying...I find it hard to do. Why? Maybe I struggle to have faith that the Lord hears me sometimes, or maybe I am too busy, or maybe I wonder if it will really do any good. I am an optimist in general. I tend to see the glass as half full. But sometimes, the subject of prayer makes me a pessimist, especially when I am waiting. Waiting on God to do what I think He is supposed to do. Isn't that funny?

I've been reading Nehemiah lately and am really challenged by his prayer life. Above are just a few of the prayers he records in his book. Nehemiah is given by God the grand task of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. They were completely destroyed by the Babylonians about 70 years earlier, and now God is ready to do something great again with his people. And of course, Nehemiah comes across some serious opposition. But his response to any difficulty no matter how great was to pray and keep on going with the task God had given him. He never asks God for a sign of confirmation and he never questions God's plan. He just prays and keeps on going.
I am incredibly challenged by that. God has called me to be a wife, a mother, a daughter, a discipler, and a teacher. Now when the going gets tough, how many times do I stop and question? Many times, the toughness of life distracts me from the task God has called me to. Instead of just praying and moving on with what I know to be true, the questions and doubts stop me from being effective.

Oh, Lord, teach me to have the focus like Nehemiah did. Teach me to trust you enough to pray and keep moving. Forgive me for all the times I have neglected to pray and remain faithful to what I know to be true. Keep my eyes on you in the good and the hard times. Remind me always to pray and keep going.

Boston Marathon Weekend

Here is Adam after the race. He looks surprisingly good for having just run 26.2 miles in 3:03. We got to see him midway in the race and he flashed a big smile at us.

Here we are at Harvard. As you can see, just being on the grounds made us feel like we needed to contemplate and think more.

Fenway Park was awesome to see. Such a piece of sports history!

The day before the race we checked out the finish line because we knew it would be too crowded to see it the day of the race. It was unbelievable how many people were there to watch and cheer for the runners. Boston really does an excellent job on making this a special event for everyone involved.

Love this picture! Okay, so the reason I was convicted...I took J to the doctor a couple of weeks ago for her shots. K has really gotten into trying to "read" this little white Bible our church gave her when she was born. So, K asked if she could take her Bible to the doctor. My first thought was to say, "No. You don't want to lose it or get it dirty," but then I thought that it is a good idea to be teaching her even now that it is good to take your Bible wherever you go. So, I changed my mind and told her "yes". When we got to the office, I stood in line to check in J and I told K that she can go ahead and sit down since Cinderella was playing on the tv. Well, I watch as she walks over to the seats, sits down next to a boy at least one year older than her, holds up her little Bible, and says to the boy, "Hi. My name is K and this is my Bible. The Bible is God's Word." Oh, how convicted I was by such innocent boldness! Lord, teach me to be just as brave when I find myself sitting next to strangers, and help K to never lose her boldness for You.

J's Dedication

So, it snowed here in Houston about a week ago. It was awesome. I think I was more excited about it than K, but we had tons of fun in it. K asked to make a snowman, and I tried, but man did it hurt my hands. I could only stand it long enough to build one a foot high.

J is Here!

J was born on July 26th at 1:56am. She weighed 6 lbs and 15 oz. and was 20 inches long. Praise the Lord for a beautiful, healthy baby. Thanks to all of you who prayed for us all during my bedrest.

Sea World

We took K to Sea World for the first time over spring break. It seemed to take forever to get there, but it was worth the wait. She loved watching Shamu (and I loved watching her watch Shamu) and at the end of the show kept asking to go down to the front to get wet (we were in the back of the auditorium just so that we wouldn't get wet). She loved seeing the penguins and especially the dolphins. We knew we had to leave the park when K started crying/throwing a temper-tantrum because she couldn't get into the pool with the dolphins. "Swim with dolphins, Mommy!!!!" We may have a very adventurous child on our hands. Keep Adam and I in your prayers.

The Running Man

Adam ran the Houston Marathon on Sunday, Jan. 18th. It was a beautiful day and we all loved being there to cheer him on. Adam finished the entire marathon in 3:07, qualifying him for the Boston Marathon! We were completely blown away with this time, since he beat his old marathon time by about 25 minutes. That is almost a minute a mile. At the end, though, Adam told me to remind him of the incredible pain he was in the next time he ever talks about wanting to run another marathon. Funny thing is that now he is now talking about doing next year's Boston. I guess this is a lot like giving birth - it is easy to forget the pain ;).

Bonfire

We had a bonfire a couple of weekends ago with our college students. It was awesome, as you can see. This is the effect of burning 21 dead Christmas trees all at one time. We brought hot dogs and marshmallows to roast, but since the fire was obviously so intense, the guys had to build a barrier for us to stand behind while roasting. Someone even called the fire department, but we weren't in trouble since we were outside of the city limits. This was quite an eventful night of fun and fellowship.

Cozumel

We had a great time in Cozumel this past week. It was a very different Christmas for us but still so fun. K loved the beach and the pool and having so much attention and love from family. It was also such an answer to prayer that she did great on the plane. We were a little worried that her first time on a plane would be crazy, but she did great. (Thanks to all of you who were praying for her.) The portable DVD player we borrowed from some friends was a huge hit. Those things are awesome by the way. Anyways, we couldn't have asked for better weather and I did not want to come home. I guess that is what makes a vacation a true holiday.

A New Cousin

Baby C, K's newest cousin, was born yesterday at 1:12pm. Momma and baby did great! We are all so excited. Oh, and when I showed K this picture above, the first thing she noticed was bunny, not her new cousin, or her aunt and uncle. My, isn't it amazing what is important to a 1 1/2 year old. Beach Trip

We just got back from a trip to Port Aransas with the family. We had a ton of fun, but I think the most fun was watching K discover and enjoy the beach. I love how she makes everything more fun and exciting for us. It is such a joy to see things through her eyes. She loved running in and out of the waves, finding shells and putting them in her bucket, but I think the most fun for her was knocking down all of DeeDee's castles. We also took K to the aquarium. She loved the "tootles" (above), and she tried kissing all of the fish in front of her in the giant aquarium. As you can see from the picture above, K won't go far without her bunny. Thankfully, she loved the beach so much that she seemed to forget bunny while out there. That would have been one gross bunny!

Vacation with the Nuckols

We enjoyed a fun-filled week with family at Canyon Lake. It was a blast. We went to the lake, Gruene, Schlitterbahn, and did a lot of shopping. The most fun was just having the opportunity to hang out and relax with each other; although, I think the brothers enjoyed their late night Playstation the most. The girls also enjoyed being together for such a long time. Thankfully, no scorpions stung us, the ants in the kitchen didn't eat too much food, and the possums/raccoons in the attic didn't disturb us until the end of the week. I realized after that trip, that I am completely city-fied.

Cousin Fun

We got together with the family a few weekends ago. K and C had a blast together as usual. I swear that I have never seen two kids so young who actually play together. They chase each other and squeal and jabber back and forth like they know what they are saying to each other. They love spending time together, and it is very relaxing for us cause we just get to watch and laugh. They are just hilarious. Love those sweet girls!

Rodeo Roundup

Over spring break we took K and her cousin to the livestock show at the rodeo here in Houston. K and C loved seeing the animals, and I think that is where K finally learned that a cow says "moo". She is very good at that now. Also, we put the girls in the John Deer tractor in honor of their Grandpa. They seemed quite comfortable in it. He should be proud.

K loves putting laundry on her head. Today, she would cover her face with the laundry and then blindly push around the laundry basket on her knees all over the house until she ran into the walls. She laughed at herself a lot.

K turned 1 year old on New Year's Eve. We had a celebration in Corpus Christi and Austin. She liked the icing on her cakes but not the cake. But she loves cake now,though, which we just found out at her daddy's birthday. She got lots of presents and she also really likes tissue paper. I love it that she gets so quiet when she plays with tissue paper because she thinks she is doing something bad. Silence is generally a good sign that nothing good is happening somewhere in our home. Anyways, I can't believe I don't have a little baby anymore. Last year went by fast. We grow more and more in love with our sweet little girl every day.

First Christmas

K had a fun first Christmas. She was as busy as can be squealing and crawling after her cousin. They entertained each other so well. I know the books say that kids don't learn to play together until 2 years old, but K and her cousin love being around each other. K will squeal really loud as she crawls after her walking cousin, C, while C will run away squealing thinking K is playing chase with her. We got a good laugh out of it every time. Having small children around for Christmas really makes the holidays more special and fun. We are so blessed!

Sorry it has taken me so long to get these pics up. We hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving. We had the opportunity to go to Pine Cove for our Thanksgiving. It was great being with family and we always love being with Pine Cove family, too. Granted it was very cold and it rained an entire day, but we still had tons of fun. K did pretty well. She didn't sleep very well at night. For some reason she got mad at us for sleeping right next to her and not getting her up at 2am every day. Thankfully, Deedee and Papa would take care of her early in the morning, so we could get a little more sleep. K wasn't too sure what to think of all the people in the dining hall, but she loved Cove Kids and loved getting so much extra attention.

K now pulls up onto any piece of furniture and is a bigtime talker. The other day I took her to the church nursery and for the first time she started giggling and jabbering with such excitement. I think it was really encouraging to the nursery workers. I just love that she is so excited to be around other people and especially loves being at church. I love watching K's personality come out. I think she is gonna be such a people person.

Having Fun!

K's cousin, C, came over last Saturday. The girls had a ton of fun together. They really like squealing back and forth to each other. There were only a few incidents where K got mad at C for playing with a toy she wanted. She especially got mad when C had the book, "Pat the Bunny". But the minute C put it down, K didn't want it anymore. Oh, the difficulties of being a baby.

When K got up from her nap, C joined her in the bed for some fun playtime. C tried running back and forth across the bed, and K was just so happy to see everyone in there waking her up (as you can see from the picture below). Thanks, Uncle Jeff for all the fun pictures you took!

Happy Fall!!!

We took K and her cousin to a pumpkin patch here in Houston. They weren't quite sure what to think of everything. K just wanted to eat and lick any pumpkin she could get near.

We also dressed the girls up for some cute pictures. K is a pumpkin and her cousin is a flamingo. I was surprised that K let us keep the head piece on. What a good little pumpkin!

What I Learned Today

I was reading a book the other day and came across something I had never realized before. In Genesis 2:9, it says that God put the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the middle of the garden. At first glance that might not seem that significant or you may ask yourself "Why would God put something He didn't want them to eat in the middle of the Garden, let alone in the Garden at all?". Well, I am certainly a believer that God has a purpose for everything He does. He does nothing by accident, and this tree in the middle of the Garden was no accident. Think about it. With the tree in the middle of the garden, they walked by it several times a day, probably. They were daily tempted by that beautiful fruit (Genesis 3:6 tells us that it was "pleasant to the eyes"). With every passing, Adam and Eve had to make a conscious decision whether or not to obey God, and maybe that is exactly what God desired. He didn't want a creation whose only choice is to obey Him. He wanted a creation that would consciously make the decision daily to obey Him as a result of their love relationship with Him. So maybe there is some good that comes out of living in this nasty, sinful world. We are bombarded daily with choices to obey or disobey, and each time we choose to obey we are bringing Him the worship He truly desires.
"Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams."

Beach Trip

I am very slow at updating pictures. Here are some pics from back in August when we went to the beach with my family. K really seemed to love the beach, but it was hard trying to keep her from eating the sand. Next year should be a little easier. But she really liked playing in her little pool on the beach. It kept the sand out very well. I totally recommend it to anyone taking a small child to the beach. She also took a few short naps in it.

Arkansas Vacation

3 Exciting Years

Yesterday, Adam and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary. As tradition, we watched our wedding DVD and reminisced on that wonderful weekend. We loved being reminded of the vows we made to each other and watching how much younger we looked just 3 years ago. We also loved seeing all of our special friends and family who were the ones who truly made that weekend so special. Thank you, again, to all of you who came to our wedding and gave us such special words of blessings and encouragement. Your presence was testimony of your love for us, and we greatly appreciate all that each of you has meant to us over the years. The sad part of watching the DVD is that we were reminded of all the people that we don't keep up with very well and for that we apologize. Sometimes our hearts ache for the days when we all got to hang out in college or high school - what sweet times they were. So to those of you that we don't see or talk to very often, know that you are often in our thoughts and even our prayers. We are thankful for all the ways you have blessed us over the years, and we pray that we will be able to catch up with you soon. Much love.

K's Dedication

K was dedicated to the Lord at church this past Sunday. It was such a special service as Adam and I promised to be K's primary faith trainers, and the church body promised to support us in raising a godly daughter. I teared up almost as badly as I did when I said my wedding vows. We are overwhelmed by the task, but we trust in God's faithfulness.

What a girly girl!!!!

K and her cousin "played" later that afternoon. And I put "played" in quotes because it consisted of K staring at her cousin and her cousin trying to grab K's face. We've gotta keep an eye on those two.

K shares her giggles and smiles with us. What a sweet face. I never get tired of looking at her.

Congrats to the new Morton Ranch High School head Cross Country Coach!!! We just found out 2 weeks ago, but it was made official today. Adam is so excited because he finally gets to coach a sport he loves and knows how to coach well. For those of you who know Adam, you know that he is a runner at heart, and this is the reason he got into coaching. He is passionate about it and will give it his all.
Adam, I am so proud of you and how hard you worked to get this job. It has been nothing but the Lord's blessing on your life. Praise Him!! I know that you will do an amazing job, but more importantly, I know that God will receive the glory from every success you have. Words just don't describe how proud of you I am. I love you.

Today, I put K in her exersaucer for the first time. She loved it!!! She is finally holding that head up better.

We went to Pearland yesterday for dinner, and we couldn't resist another photo shoot with K and her cousin.

Here we are after coming back from church. I promise K was really great until we got her home. She needed a nap.

After her nap we put that bow back on for a picture. Thanks Grandma for the bow! Everyone at church loved it.

And finally, here K is in her bonnet that her Great Grandma made for her. I love having a girl!!! It is so much more fun than dressing up my baby dolls.

Yes, we have a thumb-sucker!!!! WooHoo! Now when she starts to cry, most of the time she will eventually calm herself down by sucking on her thumb. This has made for much better nap times. Oh, and yes, you do see red hair on that head. Who would have thought that we would have a red head? Even her eye brows are red.

Here are some pictures from our time in Austin with Lacy's family. Jeff finally got to meet his little niece and Mimi got to meet her great granddaughter. It was such a fun time and K was loved on a ton. Our little girl is truly blessed because she came into the world with so many people loving her already.

We got to stop by College Station on our way to Austin for a brief afternoon this past Spring Break and got to see our friends the Hoovers and the Supercinskis (Hoovers are in the picture). We so appreciate these friendships. They are continually a blessing, despite the distance. Thank you for your love and support!
